ONGOLE: The painstaking rescue operations following the Chimakurthi quarry tragedy came to an end at Hamsa Minerals and Exports on Friday with officials recovering 14 bodies of victims who were killed in the landslip on February 25. As the dismembered parts of the bodies of the last two victims were recovered, it became well nigh impossible to identify them. So the officials had to apportion them between the two bereaved families which identified them by their clothes.

Accompanied by District Collector Kantilal Dande and SP V Navinchand, the Special Officer, Praveen Prakash, decided to continue the operation and blast the single rock weighing 3,500 tonnes that fell from the top to clear doubts that more bodies were lying underneath.
