A 30-year-old remand prisoner D. Sailu died while undergoing treatment at the Gandhi Hospital on Monday even as his relatives alleged that his health condition deteriorated after the Cyberabad police tortured him after his arrest in connection with a theft case. Sailu, a driver, was a resident of Vaddera Basthi at Rajivnagar in Gachibowli. The police arrested him last month and remanded him to judicial custody. He was later lodged in Cherlapally central prison. Three days ago, prison authorities admitted him to Gandhi Hospital after he developed health complications. He died today while undergoing treatment.
In a separate incident, a 20-year-old woman, P. Gopika, was murdered allegedly by her husband Chandu after she failed to bring additional dowry.
