A large number of women take part in the festival
The chariot festival (Rathotsavam) of the famous Sri Chennakeshava Swamy temple was held in a grand manner here on Saturday as part of the annual Brahmotsavam.
The colourfully decorated chariot of Sridevi Bhoodevi Sameta Chennakeshava Swamy was pulled with reverence by the devotees.
Vedic Priests led by Sripathi Kesavacharyulu performed special pujas to the processional deities decorated with choicest ornaments.
Chants of Govinda Govinda rented the air as MLAs Kandula Narayana Reddy (Markapur) and Anna Rambabu (Giddalur), former legislator K.P.Konda Reddy joined the thousands of devotees in taking the flower-bedecked chariot around the temple and sought the blessings of Sri Chennakeshava swamy, an incarnation of Lord Mahavishnu.
A large number of women devotees took part in the festival at the temple, an important seat of Vaishanvism since the time of Vijayanagara emperor Sri Krishnadevaraya.
Temple trust board chairman R. Koteswara Rao, Manager A. V. Narayana Reddy made elaborate arrangements for the festival with assistance of Markapur police.
