HYDERABAD: A Telugu Desam delegation has urged Chief Electoral Officer I. V. Subba Rao to restrain Sakshi TV channel from telecasting pro-Congress programmes with visuals, cartoons and skits that defamed opposition parties and showed TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu in poor light.

K. Yerran Naidu, leader of Telugu Desam Parliamentary Party, K. Sivaprasada Rao, official spokesman, and S.M. Laljan Basha, Polit Bureau member, submitted a memorandum to the CEO here on Saturday alleging that Sakshi was being used by its management to “malign and defame the political rivals of the Congress. They demanded action against Y. S. Jaganmohan Reddy, chairman of Sakshi and son of Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, under the Cable Television Network (Regulation) Act and model code. Mr. Yerran Naidu reminded the CEO that an earlier complaint lodged by the TDP had been forwarded to the Election Commission. Even as this was pending, the TV channel was telecasting some offensive advertisements in the name of some programmes like In-depth, Ding Dong, Mohan Toon, etc.

He said that one programme carried the caricatures of Mr. Naidu and TRS president K. Chandrasekhara Rao depicting them in a demeaning manner.
