The Registration and Stamps Department Employees’ Association took out a rally to protest against the slapping of cases against the registration department employees. The rally began from Sub-Registrar’s office in Gandhi Nagar and concluded at Sub-Collector’s office here on Tuesday.

The employees alleged that the police were foisting cases against the Sub-Registrars. The police were slapping cases against the Sub-Registrars in forgery and impersonation cases. Some unscrupulous elements were producing fake land documents.

The Sub-Registrars were becoming scapegoats for the mischievous deeds of some people, they said.

The Sub-Registrars have no powers to control the impersonation. The duty of Sub-Registrars was to verify the documents written by writer and witnesses.

The registration is done as per the laid down procedures. However, criminal cases were being slapped against them when victims approached the police or courts. The police authorities should seek opinion of higher-ups in impersonation cases. Necessary departmental action could be initiated if they found to be guilty, the employees felt.

The employees from six districts participated in the rally.

Association president J. Balaji, Sub-Registrars Association president L. Vijay Bhaskar, district JAC leader A. Vidyasagar and others were present.
