KADAPA: In a major crackdown on plunderers of precious red sanders, Kadapa Taluk police apprehended the kingpin and 11 members of a gang of red sander smugglers belonging to Kadapa and Chittoor districts and seized 74 red sander logs, a country-made revolver, six hunting sickles, cash, gold jewels, cell phones and vehicles on Guvvalacheruvu ghat road in Ramapuram mandal.

First Additional Judicial Magistrate of Kadapa Mary Sarah Danamma ordered remand of the 12 accused persons, charged under provisions of Indian Arms Act, Forest Act and IPC, to judicial custody till October 10. The gang leaders - Reddy Narayana alias Nara Pratap and Chappidi Mahesh Naidu – and members - Krishna Reddy, Obula Konda Reddy, Vellatur Srinivasulu Naidu, Devarajulu Naidu, Tirupati Naidu, Krishnamurthy, Narendra Babu, Sekhar, B. Ramana and Nimma Narayana were arrested, Circle Inspector Y. Harinath Reddy said on Saturday.
