Kadapa district revenue, police and forest machinery has launched a joint initiative, on Friday, to check the plundering of the invaluable red sanders which grows in the reserve forests in Kadapa district with the involvement of the villagers living in the vicinity of the forests.
District Collector V. Anil Kumar, Superintendent of Police Manish Kumar Sinha, Kadapa Divisional Forest Officer D.N.N. Murthy and DFO of Kadapa Flying Squad Party Guru Prabhakar formed the Red Sanders Protection Committee and Biodiversity Committee, both under the Chairman of the Collector, for the first time in the State. The SP, DFO and FSP DFO would be members of the committees.
The district officials addressed a meeting of people of villagers living near the forest areas in Kadapa, Vontimitta and Siddhavatam forest ranges at Siddhavatam and enlightened them on the significance of protecting the red sanders and maintaining biodiversity in the areas. Villagers would be made members of the committees after ascertaining their antecedents for maintaining vigil on the forest wealth and alert officials in case of their efforts to plunder them, the Collector said.
Forest range officers of Kadapa, Vontimitta and Siddhavatam, former local body representatives and villagers participated.
