VIJAYAWADA: The Red Cross Day celebrations organised on Saturday at the Rotary Red Cross Blood Bank, Gandhinagar, saw several speakers extolling the virtues of donating blood to save precious lives. The Sreya Foundation and the Krishna District Red Cross Society jointly organised a blood donation camp on the occasion.
Police Commissioner P.S.R. Anjaneyulu said everybody in society should come forward with a commitment to donate blood at a given opportunity. Many people were losing their lives because of unavailability of blood at the crucial juncture.
Mayor M.V. Ratna Bindu said more blood donation camps should be conducted in the city and surrounding areas to ensure timely availability of blood to save the lives of patients. During accidents, lack of immediate availability of blood often resulted in fatalities.
Vijayawada Central MLA Malladi Vishnu said the youth should play a greater role in the blood donation activities.
Sreedhar Reddy, secretary of the Krishna District Red Cross Society, and others spoke.
GUNTUR: More than 500 students of Master Minds College donated blood at the Saraswati Bhavan of the college by registering their names.
The students promised to continue this kind of donation in future also.
Institute director Mattupalli Mohan in a release said that the students had made this special on the occasion of the world Red Cross day.
Inculcating the habit of helping the society in some way or other was the basic to building a good personality,which would put them on a high pedestal in their life, he said.
