Renu Sukheja works 15 hours on elliptical cross trainer
HYDERABAD: Age is just a number and should not be a hindrance in attempting to set a record. This is what 50-year-old Renu Sukheja believes in and has attempted a Limca Book of Record for working out continuously on the elliptical cross trainer (cardiovascular fitness equipment) for 15 hours at Helios Fitness Centre here on Friday.
A fitness freak, she is regular to gym and loves working on the elliptical cross trainer everyday. After undergoing six to eight weeks of special training for attempting the record, she commenced her attempt from 8 a.m. on Friday at the centre.
Good for muscles
“Elliptical cross trainer is good for muscle and joint strength. I started working on it for fitness and wanted to attempt a record. It is fun,” says Ms. Renu without any signs of exhaustion, even as she peddles on the equipment. Initially, she started with two-hour workout programme and then increased to four and six hours. Finally, she was fit to go for the record. All the necessary tests, including MRI and expert advice from physicians and orthopaedic doctors was taken before the attempt, says M. Chandra Shekher Reddy of Helios Fitness Centre.
As per the guidelines, she can take a break of three to five minutes after every one hour and can consume water or juice during the break. Video footage of the record attempt would be sent to the Limca Book of Records authorities and a gazetted officer is witness for the event. It would take three to four weeks for confirmation of the record, informs Mr. Reddy.
“If the record is created, it would be perfect Women's Day celebrations for me. I would be glad, if others get motivated from this attempt,” says Renu, who is planning to attempt a Guinness World Record for 24 hours work out on the equipment after eight weeks.
