TIRUPATI: C.K. Ravi Kumar (40), a travels operator of Tirupati committed suicide along with his wife Lakshmi (32) after the two killed their daughter Shivani (10) at their residence in Khadi Colony. The family of three perished owing to falling real estate prices and rising debts.
Ravi Kumar was a close follower of PCC general secretary and former TTD board chairman B. Karunakar Reddy. Mounting losses forced him to sell off 14 of his 15 cabs.
He secured a job for his wife in TTD’s Sri Venkateswara Bhakti Channel, but the additional income was no match to their crisis.
His decision to sell away his plots to pay off his debts hit a roadblock with the recession yielding a throwaway price for the prime property.
Unable to battle the mental agony, the couple decided to commit suicide on Thursday evening.
After killing their unsuspecting daughter by choking her with a pillow, the husband and wife hanged themselves to the ceiling in the neighbouring rooms.
Their cab driver, who returned after a trip, found them hanging and alerted their relatives, who in turn, informed the police. Mr. Karunakar Reddy also rushed to the spot and expressed his condolences. The Alipiri police are investigating.
