Protestors urged not to resort to violence and create trouble for passengers

Vijayawada Divisional Railway Manager Pradeep Kumar of South Central Railway has said that the ongoing ‘Samaikyandhra’ movement did not disrupt the rail transportation. The SCR was, however, ready to make alternative arrangements for the passengers, if necessary.

The DRM on Saturday said that the agitations had not showed any impact on revenue in the last four days and trains were running as per schedule. The protestors stopped trains at a few places and expressed their protest, and there was a slight decline in passenger rush, he said.

“The SCR has arranged one loco and two coaches as standby. If the protestors disrupt trains or resort to violence in any section under Vijayawada Division, we are ready to shift the passengers to their destinations, in emergency”, said Mr. Pradeep Kumar.

Railway Protection Force (RPF) Senior Security Commissioner Ramesh Chandra said that enough police forces were deployed at the stations and patrolling was arranged along the tracks, as a preventive measure. There were no incidents of protestors damaging railway assets during the agitation, he said.

Superintendent of Railway Police Ch. Syam Prasada Rao said that some unidentified persons burnt a tyre on the tracks near Eluru, on Friday.

The driver of a train which was about to pass on the tracks observed fire and stopped the train.

He appealed to the protestors not to damage the railway properties, or resort to arson and not to create any inconvenience to the passengers.

“We received reports on ‘Samaikyandhra’ protestors stopping trains near Bhimavaram, Narsapuram, Tanuku, Rajahmundry, Tadepalligudem and other stations for some time, but the trains were running as usual. However, no cases have been registered on the agitators”, Mr. Prasada Rao said.
