VIJAYAWADA: Actor Nandamuri Balakrishna on Wednesday described himself as “oxygen to the Telugu Desam Party” and asserted that he was ready to shoulder “any responsibility given by the party leadership”.
The actor, who is riding on the success of his latest release ‘Simha', offered special pujas in the famous temple of Yogananda Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy at Vedadri near Jaggayyapeta in Krishna district and spoke to reporters later. He was given a rousing reception by TDP MLAs, party leaders and fans.
Asked about his recent statements on the possibility of taking over the reins of the TDP and the refrain of party president N. Chandrababu Naidu that it was an “internal matter” of the party and the family, Mr. Balakrishna quipped: “I am an active worker of the party and will continue to be so.”
He further said, “Whenever the party wants me to serve it, I will. But there is no need now. Chandrababu Naidu is taking forward the party well.”
Appearing in a buoyant mood and waving to the fans who repeatedly shouted slogans “Future CM Balakrishna”, the actor said that taking over the reins of the party must come as a “divine ordain”. In reply to a question, he said plans were afoot to make a film for him and NTR Jr. to act together. He was received by four TDP MLAs – Devineni Umamaheswara Rao (Mylavaram), Kodali Sri Venkateswara Rao (Gudivada), Sriram Rajagopal (Jaggayyapeta) and T. Prabhakar Rao (Nandigama).
