Primary schools

lagging behind

Despite the Government doling out a good number of schemes to encourage parents to put their children in the State-run primary schools, the percentage of admissions is far below the desired level. Why are parents reluctant to send their children to Government schools - the reason is poor quality of education that is being imparted when compared to private schools.

To improve the situation, Government should introduce incentive system for the teachers and impose surveillance system on the teachers.

Naming of bus depot

As per the reports published in the media, the APSRTC bus depot at Ponnur in Gunturdistrict is likely to be reopened in a month or two. Both the Government and the APSRTC authorities should consider naming the depot after freedom fighter Adharapurapu Seshagiri Rao, who was also instrumental in getting the depot started at Ponnur about five decades ago.

Upset with Legal metrology department

The Legal Metrology Department is not functioning as desired. I was charged Rs.40 for half-litre bottle of soft drink at the Guntur Railway Station Platform No.1, when the actual cost was Rs.20. I tried calling the Legal Metrology Department through the toll free number 1860-425-3333 and was curtly informed by a clerk to represent the case at the Guntur office.

When I insisted that I wanted to speak to the office superintendent, I was informed that she was having her breakfast. I represented the case to the Controller of State Legal Metrology Department at Hyderabad. The response was prompt and the local authorities were instructed to conduct a surprise raid, but so far no action has been taken.

Road in a bad shape

The National Highway from Benz Circle to Varadhi is always choked with heavy vehicular traffic and is increasing with every passing day.

The authorities concerned are not improving the infrastructure in tune with the need.

There is no proper lighting and many accidents are taking place.

The light posts erected on the dividers are blocked by the trees. The police also should place traffic policemen at vital junctions on this route.
