GUNTUR: Minister for Heavy Industries Kanna Lakshminarayana on Saturday reacted aggressively to the corruption allegations levelled by Guntur MP Rayapati Sambasiva Rao and said he was ready to meet party president Sonia Gandhi to clarify his position.

Addressing a press conference, Mr. Lakshminarayana took strong exception to the MP's statement that there were many Madhu Khodas in K. Roshaiah's Cabinet and said that it was unbecoming of a Congress leader to have come out open in the media with such an allegation against party Ministers as it would tarnish the image of the party. “I have no objection to his complaining to the party president about me if he has enough evidence and I can reply to that with all supporting documents,” the Minister replied.

Meanwhile, the Guntur MP told reporters here on Saturday night that he had talked about only one Minister from Guntur district and not about any other district.

‘Ready to cooperate'

He said he was ready to cooperate with any agency, Government or party panel probing his allegations. He said that he had submitted letters to the ACB Director and AICC president and it was up to them to decide on what they desired to do. Mr. Sambasiva Rao had said on Friday that the State Cabinet was full of corrupt Ministers and demanded inquiry by the ACB sleuths. He also wanted all the ‘Corrupt' Ministers and those opposing the authority of Chief Minister to be removed.

Mr. Lakshminarayana said that he had been filing Income Tax returns specifying the source of income and also filed affidavits during the elections with Election Commission, which was a public document.

“The MP should have cross verified with that before making an allegation,” he added.
