Big time chess will come to Krishna district for the second time this year as an all India FIDE rating tournament for below 2,000 rating players and unrated players, will be held at DRRMC Indoor Stadium here from July 31 to August 3. The four-day tournament, with total prize money of Rs.1 .40 lakh, is a boon to 40-odd local rated players who will have an opportunity to enhance their ratings.
“We are expecting around 150 players from all over the country and received entries from Jammu and Kashmir, Maharashtra, Goa, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka,” said Krishna District Chess Association secretary D. Srihari here on Thursday. The tourney will be jointly organized by Jitendra Chess Academy and KDCA. It will be played in Swiss system with nine rounds with time control of 60 minutes including 30 seconds increment per move. “In case of tie break, the latest FIDE rule will be applied,” Mr. Srihari said.
“On the inaugural day, two rounds will be held and the next day (i.e.) August 1, there will be three rounds and the last two days will witness two rounds each,” said Jitendra Chess Academy founder P. Tejomayee. “The tournament will be held in eight categories -- Open, men, women, veteran, under-13, 11, 9, and 7. The organisers will provide accommodation and lunch every day to all the players. The entry fee is Rs.1,400 and the last day for receipt of entries is July 27. The entries may be mailed to jithendrachessacademy@

Earlier, KDCA organised a FIDE rating tourney at Vuyuuru’s Viswasanthi English Medium High School.
The association is planning to conduct a coaching camp during Dasara holidays. FIDE master N. Srinivas will take up classes for the players.
