ADILABAD: All the inter-State roads on Adilabad-Maharashtra border were blocked on Wednesday during the bandh that was total and peaceful. Police arrested 14 persons during the day; ten of them were accused of damaging 108 ambulance during protests at Narnoor mandal headquarters.
Traffic remained suspended early in the day as pro-Telangana agitators blocked the NH 7 on Penganga river bridge and sealed the other entrances into Andhra Pradesh at Talamadugu, Bela, Wankidi, Chennur, Tanur, Bhainsa and Mudhole mandals. Agitators also staged rasta rokos on all the important roads in the district paralysing flow of intra-district traffic.
Chennur MLA Nallala Odelu and Sirpur MLA K. Sammaiah, both of the Telangana Rashtra Samiti detained trains at Mandamarri and Kagaznagar towns. Trains were also detained by protesters at Talamadugu and Mancherial stations. The NTR Chowk in Adilabad town was the centre of all protest activity in Adilabad town as pro-Telangana activists belonging to various sections called on the fasting leaders. Indefinite hunger strikes were launched at Utnoor, Mancherial and Chennur during the day, which also saw rallies and effigy burnings at many places.
Judges of different courts in Adilabad raised ‘Jai Telangana’ slogans when they were accosted by members of the Bar Association who had struck work demanding separate Telangana. The RTC suspended all its services in the district, while banks, cinema houses remain closed.
