A colony that had just two apartment buildings and two independent houses a decade ago has gone through a lot of transformation in the recent past. Rama Raju Nagar, located at Peda Waltair, greets you with a spread of apartments and posh houses distributed well over the five-and-a-half acre layout.
Residents here are mainly either employees or students. The life of the residents here is divided between two worlds – either home and work, or home and educational institutions. A majority of them prefer keeping to themselves. Though the apartment culture has come in recently, not much common activity happens that involves residents of the colony.
Facelift for park
People appear to be happy as such and stay away from celebrating festivals and cultural events at a communal level. With an intention to draw the residents closer, to a common platform, a non-functional park, spread over one acre, located at the heart of the colony, will soon sport a new look. The area earmarked for the park used to be frequented by unruly youngsters from neighbouring areas creating nuisance, explains T.V.V. Satyanarayana, a resident. “We are quite happy that GVMC has taken up the initiative to construct the park. People over here are calm and we intend to infuse a little liveliness in the colony through our association,” he adds.
The welfare association of the colony has approached GVMC for the development of the park and the authorities have agreed to restructure it under public and private partnership with the residents needing to raise 30 per cent of the cost and the balance 70 per cent coming from the civic body.
The residents are eagerly waiting to see the park come to life.
