A rally conducted by Lions Club of Visakhapatnam against use of plastic to protect the environment evoked an impressive response on Sunday.

The rally, which was flagged off at RK beach culminated at YMCA. It was attended by 500 members of Lions Clubs, Walkers' Club and Drugs and Chemists' Association.

Beach walkers and students of Ararsh Talent School and Minerva Public School took part. Lions District Governor V. Vijay Kumar Raju flagged off.

In his speech, Mr. Raju spoke on adverse impact of plastic use and mentioned how it had been banned in several countries.

He said by creating awareness among the public, the usage in India should be stopped completely.

He said as an alternate to plastic, bags made with biodegradable material like paper and jute should be popularised.

The Lions Club members also distributed biodegradable bags among the participants and the public on the beach road.

Club president Manu L. Menda, secretary K. Rajeswara Rao, past district governor N.V. N. Durga Prasad and others were present.
