Hectic activity in city as the date of the four-day event's inaugural nears
Sports and cultural events to be held for participants from both districts Kalasa Yatra and River Pooja to be the main events on the inaugural dayWorks pertaining to the Godavari Utsav allocated to different committees
Rajahmundry: Hectic activity is seen all parts of the city as the date of Godavari Utsav is nearing and all most all the departments are engaged in making the event a grand success.
The Utsav is scheduled between January 24 and 27. Rajahmundry Municipal Corporation Mayor M. S. Chakravarti, who is also convener of the Utsav committee, released a poster and brochure on the four-day mega event along with Commissioner C. Sudarshan Reddy and corporators, on Saturday.
Speaking on the occasion, the Mayor said that they were conducting different events in sports, cultural and other items at venues like Arts College grounds, Cosmopolitan Club and other places. He said they were going to conduct cricket, lawn tennis, shuttle, volleyball, basketball, archery and Kabaddi competitions for sportspersons of both Godavari districts.
He said that the foundation would be laid for Godavari Utsav Park near Central Prison on the inaugural day and a horticulture and floriculture show would alsoe be inaugurated in Subrahmanyam Maidan. The Mayor said that Kalasa Yatra and River Pooja were the main events on the inaugural day, in which a large number of women were expected to take part.
Mr. Chakravarti said that renowned poet, 'Adikavi Nannaiah Bharata Rachana' documentary would be showed on the first day of the event cuktural programme by film actor Siva Reddy and playback singer Malgadi Subha would be the highlights on the first day.
He said they had already announced that MP and film actress Jayaprada would be inaugurating the festival and number of Ministers and MLAs were going to take part in the event on the second day.
Mr. Sudarshan Reddy said that they had allocated different works to different committees under the chairmanship of the Minister for Roads and Buildings J. Ramamohana Rao and they were coordinating with each committee.
A media centre for covering the four-day Utsav would be be inaugurated on January 23 by the R&B Minister J. Ramamohana Rao. According to Laljan, Assistant Director of Information, the centre will have computers, fax and telephone for the benefit of mediapersons. It would be arranged in Standing Committee hall of the Rajahmundry Municipal Corporation.
