The North East monsoon rains have commenced over Rayalaseema and South Coastal districts on Monday even as the south west monsoon further withdrew from remaining parts of the State and across the country.
Rains lashed many places over Coastal Andhra, particularly Nellore and a few places over Rayalaseema, mainly Chittoor district, while isolated rain occurred over Telangana.
Some places in Nellore received heavy rainfall, including Sriharikota-9 cm, Kavali, Nellore and Sullurpet-5 cm while other areas Prakasam, Srikakulam, Visakhapatnam and Vizianagaram also received good rain. The other areas which received good rainfall are Yerrangondapalem in Prakasam (7 cm) and Satyavedu in Chittoor (4 cm).
In Telangana region, Suryapet, Koida, Nalgonda, Kuranavaram received rains in the range of 1 cm to 2 cm.
More rain today
According to Met office, moderate to rather heavy rain or thundershowers would occur at most places over South Coastal Andhra and many places over North Coastal Andhra and Ralayaseema and over Telangana in the next 36 hours.
Heavy rains would occur at isolated places in all the districts of Rayalaseema and in the districts of East and West Godavari, Krishna, Guntur, Prakasam and Nellore of coastal Andhra during the next 48 hours.
However, because of depression in South-west of Bay of Bengal, closer to Chennai, it was experiencing heavy rains, according to Disaster Management department here.
