VISAKHAPATNAM: After a scorching morning, heavy rain lashed the city and suburbs on Thursday afternoon, brining relief to Vizagites. The rain lasted about half an hour and the cloudy weather continued.
The cumulo-nimbus clouds got locally activated and with the monsoon being active, the city received a good rain, according to the Cyclone Warning Centre. Between 8.30 a.m. and 5.30 p.m., Visakhapatnam received two cm of rain.
The heavy rain caught the people unawares including schoolchildren and college students returning home. The roads were waterlogged for some time and water flowed over the drains. In the low-lying areas and places like KRM Colony, people had to wade through knee-deep water.
Vehicles were once again caught in the loose soil on the road dug up to lay underground drainage pipes or water pipes.
The monsoon was moderate to vigorous and the coastal area and south peninsula received good rain, according to the CWC.
Gopalpur received five cm of rain, Nellore two cm and Kalingapatnam and Kakinada one cm of rain each between 8.30 a.m. and 5.30 p.m.
