Less than a week after TTD priests performed ‘Ashtothara Satakundatmaka Mahasanti Yagam', a ritual aimed at world peace and prosperity in general and meant to propitiate the rain god in particular, heavy rains lashed parts of Rayalaseema.

The TTD Chairman K. Bapi Raju and Executive Officer L.V. Subrahmanyam were quick to attribute the thunder showers to the ritual performed at Srinivasa Mangapuram near here on November 20, with over 200 Vedic scholars painstakingly performing the ritual in 108 ‘Homa Gundams'.

With Papavinasanam, Akasaganga, Gogarbham and Kumaradhara-Pasupudhara dams already to their brim and the water sufficient to meet the pilgrims' requirements for the next three to six months, the TTD authorities said the unexpected rain also coincided with Sri Padmavati Ammavari Brahmotsavams currently on at Tiruchanur.
