GUNTUR: Excise and Prohibition Department conducted raids on Maurya Dhaba at Auto Nagar in the city, seized several bottles of liquor for selling them without licence and arrested three persons on Monday.
There were many complaints of several hotels and bars selling loose liquor without licence, which the Excise Department officials decided to stop by raiding the premises. They locked the Maurya Dhaba.
District Superintendent of Police B. Shivadhar Reddy has asked the police personnel to take special care to curb the two-wheeler theft and keep a watch on the movement of Maoists following the encounter death of Susarshan recently.

Tobacco growers' plea
The Virginia Tobacco Growers Association held a meeting at the Tobacco Board Office on Monday and demanded that the board utilize the entire Rs.10 crores, collected as penalties from farmers, on farmers' welfare only.
The meeting chaired by growers' leader Yelamanchili Shivaji said that there was a committee to look into all these aspects and its term would come to an end on March 31 when new one had to be constituted.
