There was jubilation all around in the State Congress after Rahul Gandhi was appointed as the party’s vice-president.
Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, in a statement issued from Jaipur, said that with 54 per cent of the country’s population being below 25 years, Mr. Gandhi’s leadership would give them the right direction. A person who has kept away from power and believes in selfless service would give the much needed direction, he said.
He exuded confidence that Mr. Gandhi would emerge as a great leader in the years to come and continue the tradition shown by Nehru’s family to the country.
He thanked AICC president Sonia Gandhi for giving the go-ahead to appoint Mr. Gandhi as the party’s vice-president.
Hailing the announcement, made after the Congress Working Committee meeting in Jaipur on Saturday, former PCC chief D. Srinivas said that Mr. Gandhi’s appointment would be a boon to the younger generation of the country.
Revenue Minister N. Raghuveera Reddy in a statement said that Mr. Gandhi’s appointment was sure to enthuse young Congressmen. APCC general secretary G. Niranjan said that Congress workers would now work with more enthusiasm to bring back the party to power in the 2014 elections.
