Allegations against the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) leadership by M. Raghunandan Rao, a leader from Medak district, following his suspension from the party have come as a bolt from the blue to the party at a time when it has been engaged in strengthening the organisation by conducting political classes for the cadre.

The party leadership was caught unawares with the sudden rebellion by Raghunandan, who was stated to have been very close to some of the key leaders of the party. Some damage was done by the time the party got down to fire-fighting as it miscalculated the consequences of getting rid of loose cannon, a senior leader of the party admitted.

Though the party faced similar piquant situation when it had suspended Rehman Khan, a former MLC, it did not expect the Raghunandan episode to blow out of proportion.

“Keeping aside what material evidence Raghunandan has, it’s true that party’s response to the rebel’s allegations against the leadership has been somewhat slow and not pointed and this has helped him gain considerable space in the media”, another senior leader said.

Meanwhile, family members of TRS president K. Chandrasekhar Rao have started rallying behind the beleaguered Harish Rao, though little late.

Party legislator K.T. Rama Rao said on Sunday that they would consider all legal options against Raghunandan for making baseless allegations against the leadership.

“By playing into the hands of Congress, TDP and YSR Congress, he has been trying to engineer differences among family members”, Mr. Rama Rao alleged. He stated that the party was left with no option but to suspend Raghunandan following certain information that he had set stage to switch loyalties and was inviting some other leaders to follow him.

“As Harish demanded, let him place the evidence, if he has any, before an investigating agency instead of longing just for publicity”, he said.

Defamation suit

Kadiam Srihari, who joined TRS recently, said he too would move a defamation suit against Raghunandan for linking him to a murder in Warangal district if he failed to apologise within 48 hours.
