Purified water centres are being set up to safeguard people's health, district Collector Shashi Bhushan Kumar said on Saturday evening.

He inaugurated a Sujalam community purified water centre at Alamkhanpalle at a cost of Rs. 3 lakh sanctioned under the MPLADs of Telugu Desam Party's Rajya Sabha member M.V. Mysoora Reddy, as incidence of half of the diseases is water-borne. Water analysis in Alamkhanpalle showed the presence of 1.3 units of fluoride and hence the purified water centre was started, he said.

He told officials of Kadapa Municipal Corporation and SMART Aqua Technologies Pvt. Ltd., Hyderabad, to run the centre effectively.

An adjoining potable drinking water scheme would be launched in January 26 by releasing water from Lingampalle reservoir, he assured.

Mr. Mysoora Reddy said the purified water centre would supply a 20 litre can of water at Rs. 2 and the sum would be used for maintenance of the centre.

Former Vice-Chairman of Kadapa Zilla Parishad G. Lakshmi Reddy, Municipal Commissioner D. John Samson and Rural Water Supply SE Srinivasulu participated.
