Programme for plantation of saplings all along the General Cargo Berth also launched

VISAKHAPATNAM: A newly constructed pump house with a 1 lakh litre groundwater tank and a water filling station for lorries was inaugurated by Visakhapatnam Port Trust Chairman Ajeya Kallam on the occasion of World Environment Day.

The facility would be used to sprinkle water on the iron ore stacks and on roads at the Ore Handling Complex (OHC) area to avoid dust pollution.

The Chairman also launched programme for plantation of saplings all along the General Cargo Berth (GCB) area abutting One Town area, Coast Guard road, all along the south of Flyover Bridge opposite ESSAR company.

Yelamarthy College: Students of the college took a rally carrying placards depicting the importance of trees, water conservation and protection of the ozone layer. They distributed pamphlets on various aspects of environment protection. Students pursuing B. Ed., B. Pharm, D. Pharm and Computer Education, teachers and non-teaching staff of the college participated.

East India Petroleum Private Limited (EIPL): Environmental Engineer K. Sri Rama Murthy planted saplings in the plant premises. Deputy General Manager K.V.K. Subba Raju, Senior Manager T.V.H. Kumar, Deputy Manager (HSE) K. Rama Rao and employees participated in the programme.

Mr. Sri Rama Murthy appreciated the efforts of the plant management for maintaining greenery in the plant premises.

Srujanavani Voluntary Association: A plantation drive was taken up by the association in public places.
