Sri Venkateswara University Vice-Chancellor W. Rajendra has advised psychologists to initiate further research in collaboration with researchers of related and allied sciences like zoology, pharmacology etc. in order to contribute more effectively towards the well-being of the common man.
Speaking at the inauguration of the eighth national conference of Academy of Psychologists, co-organised by the varsity’s Directorate of Distance Education here on Saturday, he called upon the psychologists to look beyond their domain of knowledge and understand the potential difficulties and challenges in related fields.
He called the human brain consisting of billions of neurons ‘the most powerful tool in a man’s hand, yet grossly underutilised’.
Even Einstein was able to use only less than 10 per cent of his brain power, he said, quipping, “Every man is a psychologist while guiding others during difficulties.” Prof. Rajendra appealed to the fraternity to fill every individual with hope and self-confidence to enable them to lead a fruitful life.
M. Basavanna, a senior professor from Bangalore delivered the keynote address, while the academy’s patron and a geriatrics expert, P.V. Ramamurthi, presided over the session. Psychology head D. Jamuna stressed the need for practising psychologists to lead an ethical life. SVU DDE Director and organising secretary B. Govinda Reddy introduced the theme, while academic Ravi Naidu, welcomed the guests. Joint Secretary Kalathuru Sudhakar Reddy proposed the vote of thanks. Overall, 100 delegates from Bangalore, Chennai, Coimbatore and Gulbarga took part.
