A few city-based psychiatrists and psychologists have formed a group to provide services that were hitherto not available to patients in this part of the State.
Calling themselves the “Mind Care Team” noted psychiatrists P. Krishna Mohan and V. Radhika Reddy, clinical psychologists Anuradha Musunuri, Siva Sankar and counselling psychologists T.S. Rao, Srinivas Kilaru and Laitha Behra have set up the Mind Care Hospitals near the Anjaneyaswami Temple at Kothavanthena Centre on Eluru Road.
“Working independently we are unable to provide acute psychiatric patients the attention they require,” said Dr. P. Krishna Mohan. Recalling the incident of an acute schizophrenia patient killing two of his cellmates in a Visakhapatnam hospital, he said that round-the-clock surveillance was needed in psychiatric hospitals with inpatients.
Dr. Radhika Reddy said that the hospital had 30 beds and an acute psychiatric care (intensive care) ward with three beds.
