ELURU: The PRP-sponsored protest on price rise on Thursday witnessed a high-level drama.

The protesters drew a tractor with the help of a bullock cart in a bid to highlight the impact of the hike in diesel prices on the common public.

A delegation from the party led by party senior leaders Kothapalli Subbarayudu, Kotagiri Vidyadhara Rao and Eeli Nani (MLA) presented a packet of dal to Collector A. Vani Prasad as a mark of protest against the alleged failure of the State government in checking its soaring prices.

A section of agitators who came in procession to the Collectorate from the party district office carried grass with gestures seeking to know from the government whether they would survive by just feeding on grass in the wake of spiralling prices of essential goods.

The protest provided a forum for all district-level leaders to get together by sinking their differences after the setbacks the party suffered in the elections.

In a memorandum to the Collector, the Praja Rajyam Party said the price of rice had shot up by more than three times in the last six years and dal more than four times from Rs. 20 to Rs. 85.
