HYDERABAD: The police prevented a large group of teachers from proceeding to the Assembly as part of their `Chalo Assembly' programme on Wednesday.

The police denied permission to the APUTF, which gave the call for the programme, either to take out the procession or gather at Indira Park. A few hundred teachers of the organisation were picked up when they gathered at the venue.

When the demonstrators tried to advance, the police forcibly herded them into waiting vans.

Those who resisted were physically lifted into the vehicles.

Meanwhile, the Progressive Recognised Teachers' Union (PRTU) said it will court arrest in front of all district collectoates on March 4 protesting against the Government's indifference to their long pending demands.
