Agitators hurl stones at sericulture office, while people continue search for ATMs and petrol pumps
The ongoing Samaikyandhra movement in Madanapalle town turned violent on Tuesday when the agitators stormed into the sericulture office here and hurled stones, leading to a commotion among the staff and some farmers.
The agitators under the banners of the JAC of the employees and teachers went berserk all over the town and enforced the bandh, by forcing the business establishments and various banks to down their shutters. The agitators also resorted to stone-pelting at various banks, but the alert police intervened and averted the bandh.
Special forces deployed
Special Forces have been deployed at all the vital establishments and government offices including the telecom, postal, and railway stations as they have been the prime targets of the protesters.
In Chittoor town, the Telugu Desam cadres took out a rally, demanding a rollback of the decision on formation of the Telangana State. Elsewhere in Chittoor and Madanapalle divisions, the bandh had its effects, while the national highways connecting Bangalore and Chennai wore a deserted look apart from the movements of a few vehicles now and then.
Power woes prevail
Meanwhile, the public continued their frantic search for ATMs at various places, while the petrol bunks displayed no-stock boards. The power bandh from morning till late in the evening stalled the business at various outlets, while the public chose to spend most time outside due to sweltering heat.
