The CPI (M), CPI and other Left parties have criticised the government for its attempts to burden power consumers through ‘backdoor methods’.
The Left parties expressed concern over the latest proposal submitted by the power utilities, seeking imposition of fuel surcharge adjustment to the tune of Rs.1,137 crore, to the AP Electricity Regulatory Commission. Consumers have been burdened with FSA of Rs.12,167 crore in the past four years, besides power tariff hike of Rs.6,173 crore.
In spite of Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy’s claims that consumers below 200 units would not be burdened, the utilities were making them shell out huge amounts in the name of FSA. The Left parties appealed to the people to stage protests against the government’s policies across the State on May Day.
