The International Day for Older Persons was observed here on Tuesday.
At a programme organised by the AU-NCSA Centre for Gerontology, Vice-Chancellor of Andhra University G.S.N. Raju wanted the government to take care of those who had crossed 70 years.
Acts meant for the welfare of elderly people must be implemented and the benefits being provided by the State and Central governments should reach them, Prof. Raju said.
Families should provide love and affection to the old persons of the family and should not isolate them, he said.
President of NCSA-India T. Saraswathi Devi appealed to the Vice-Chancellor to provide a place on the campus to conduct welfare activities for old people. Convenor of AU-NCSA Centre for Gerontology T. H. Manuel explained the activities of the centre.
