The local Bharatiya Janata Party and Telugu Desam units are busy making fool-proof arrangements for Gujarat Chief Minister and BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi’s visit to the city on May 1. Apart from Mr. Modi, TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu and Jana Sena leader Pawan Kalyan are expected to attend the meeting.
The public meeting would be held on a sprawling 25 acre site on the Inner Ring Road near the Bhashyam School. Around two lakh people are expected to attend the meeting, claimed the party leaders.
High level security arrangements were being made and the entire venue has been taken over by the National Security Group units which have flown from New Delhi.
Along with two units of NSG commandos, Central and State forces were keeping a round-the-clock vigil on the venue.
Inspector General of Police, Guntur, P.V Sunil Kumar, along with SPs--Gopinath Jatty and J. Satyanarayana--inspected the security arrangements at the venue.
Elaborate arrangements were being made which included the construction of three daises each to accommodate the leaders. An exclusive dais to present cultural shows was also being set up. The arrival of Modi is expected to boost the electoral prospects of the TDP candidates in Guntur and Narsaraopet segments. The TDP has allotted just one seat (Narsaraopet Assembly segment) to the BJP, from where Nallabothu Venkata Rao is contesting.
