Union Ministry of Shipping proposes to locate a major sea port in Ramayapatnam
Taking advantage of the vast coastline in Prakasam district, the Andhra Pradesh Government is augmenting tourism infrastructure in Prakasam district on the beaches to unleash tourism potential in full.
Giving an outline of the ongoing projects, District Tourism Officer M. Nagabhushanam said “we are improving facilities for tourists at a cost of Rs. 3.5 crore in Ramayapatnam to take advantage of the exponential growth in the place which is likely to witness in the near future.”
The Union Ministry of shipping proposed to locate a major sea port, second one in the State after Visakhapatnam, in Ramayapatnam, which has American Baptist Mission Church constructed in 1874 as a special tourist attraction.
The major tourist spots in the district including Kothapatnam, Vodarevu and Ramapuram were declared notified areas to woo beach-loving people within the country and abroad, to explore the unpolluted silver sands, Mr. Nagabhushanam explained while talking to The Hindu here on Friday.
The APTDC had already taken over the Panchayatraj Department guest house and developed basic facilities for the benefit of tourists who could have a splash on the picturesque beach or have a stroll at sunrise and sunset to capture an everlasting impression of the unforgettable experience, APTDC Divisional Manager J. Raghupathi Rao said.
“A beach resort comprising five cottages and a restaurant is being constructed in a quick pace. Landscaping is being done to add flavour to the picturesque beach resort”, he said .
At Kothapatnam, the Rs. 1.16 crore-APTDC project including three new cottages and a restaurant had been completed. The Irrigation Department guest house had also been renovated.
“Tenders have been floated by the APTDC to rope in a private player for maintenance of the cottages, and restaurant developed at Kothapatnam beach, about 20 km from the city.
The APTDC had sought another one acre for creation of eight more cottages in Kothapatnam beach.
Youth Hostels Association of India Ongole unit secretary D. Shravan Kumar said “we are going to organise a “Moon Kayaking” from Kothapatnam to Madanuru-Ethamukala coinciding with the full moon day next month to satisfy the appetite of adventure loving youth.
Tourism infrastructure at the Vodarevu beach near Chirala had been augmented at an estimated cost of Rs. 17.50 lakhs.
They included a beach resort comprising a suite, changing rooms, public toilets, bathing facility after a splash in the sea, Mr. Nagabushanam added.
