The merger of the Praja Rajyam with the Congress towards this month-end is likely to be a low-key affair. Party president K. Chiranjeevi was reportedly counselled by the Congress high command to keep the proposed event on a low key, lest it antagonises the loyal party supporters. The film star-turned-politician was in New Delhi on a visit on Tuesday and Wednesday to meet AICC leaders and know their mind on what they had in store for him in the wake of a plethora of reports that he would get a plum party position.

The issue of Mr. Chiranjeevi's future does not appear to have figured in the discussions. C. Ramachandraiah, MLC, who accompanied him, said “We did not discuss the issue of Mr. Chiranjeevi being given a larger responsibility in the Congress. Neither was there any offer from the party nor did we expect anything. All that will come later.”
