Practice of public relations begins at home and carries over into the larger society, former director (HR) Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited V Vizia Saradhi said.

Speaking at the inauguration of a seminar on ‘Role of Public Relations in any Organisation’ organised by the Visakhapatnam chapter of the Public Relations Society of India, he said it was essential for everyone to realise that family members too were public and they had to maintain good relations with them. ‘Only when we have good relations at home can we expect to have good relations with others at the workplace, he said. The importance of PR is growing in the present economic scenario,’ he added.

Journalists were increasingly depending on the media relations officers of agencies and institutions, former chief of bureau of The Hindu B Prabhakkar Sharma said. In the present-day scenario the practitioners of PR too needed to change and the journalists too needed to focus on good relations with external public, head of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication of Andhra University D V R Murthy said.

There was a need to find synergy and greater collaboration between journalists and the PR practitioners, secretary of Vizag Journalist Forum and chief of bureau of Andhra Prabha Durga Rao said. Chairman of the Visakhapatnam chapter of PRSI G N Murthy, secretary US Sarma, treasurer PLK Murthy, KM Reddy, Thilak, KVR Prasad, Lingeswara Rao, Govinda Rao, Divakar and a number of practitioners attended the seminar.
