Only Chiru will be in fray while other family members will campaign for him, says Pawan

DACHEPALLI/MACHERLA: Yuva Rajyam president Pawan Kalyan has tried to end speculation about the growing family influence on the Praja Rajyam Party by stating that only Chiranjeevi will remain in the poll fray in the forthcoming elections.

“PRP is not a family owned party. Only Mr. Chiranjeevi will contest the polls, while the family members would campaign for him,” he said during a media conference held at Dachepalli, where he kick started his roadshow on Sunday.

Addressing a series of well-attended roadshows at Dachepalli, Rentachintala, Durgi and Marchela, he said that if the PRP was voted to power, it would give priority to solving the drinking water crisis by constructing smaller dams. By launching an ambitious ‘Jala Yagnam’, the Congress had opened the floodgates to corruption, he said, adding that smaller irrigation projects would solve the problem.

Need of the hour

Referring to the shortage of drinking water in the Palnadu region, he said that he was often left wondering as to how villages lying adjacent to the Krishna had been facing water crisis. “The need of the hour is micro irrigation projects, which are cost-effective. It is not water which runs in the left and right canals of the Nagarjuna Sagar, it is corruption and the greed of the politicians,” he said to a deafening roar of applause from the crowds. The roadshows passed through crowded narrow lanes of Durgi and Macherla, where the actor-turned-politician was given a tumultuous welcome. The spontaneous response to the roadshows enthused the party cadre. At several places, he was forced to address unscheduled meetings and at some places he politely declined to unfurl party flags on flagpoles. At two places, he declined to speak as the organisers had not obtained prior permission from the police.
