The dissent from political parties has been steadily growing against the new proposals of the State government on power tariff hike.
On Monday, leaders of various political parties came together to stage a massive dharna at several places across the district opposing the government’s move to hike the power tariff.
At Kaloji centre in Hanamkonda, CPI district secretary T. Srinivasa Rao, CPI (M) district secretary G. Nagaiah, CPI (ML) Prathighatana leader M. Ilaiah, Forward Block E. Venu, CPI (ML Liberation) M. Raghupathi, MCPI leader S. Sambhaiah and scores of their supporters sat on a demonstration for the day. They raised slogans against the State government and criticised for its anti-people policies.
The leaders of the Left parties demanded that the State government immediately withdraw its proposed new power tariff.
Addressing the gathering, CPI (M) leader G. Nagaiah accused the government of trying to burden the people for no fault. “It is the government that should own the responsibility for bad handling of the power sector. But, it wants to pass on the buck to poor people by forcibly collecting money in the name of surcharge and new tariff. The Left parties will standby the people and fight against the government,” he said to the cheering crowd.
CPI leader T. Srinivasa Rao wanted the State government to admit its mistakes and inability to handle the power sector. It should rollback the tariff and withdraw the new proposals which are anti-people.
