After a brief lull of four to five days, power cuts are back in the city with vengeance.

On Saturday, various locations across the city experienced power cuts of four hours imposed in two spells in the day.

A week ago, there was an announcement by the CPDCL informing that the duration of load reliefs for the city had been increased to four hours per day instead of the earlier three hours.

However, within a few days after the announcement, the power cuts were totally lifted in the city due to reasons not made clear by the discom.

“We thought it was due to the international biodiversity conference going on in the city. But our hopes of continuous power supply till the end of the conference were dashed today, when we went without power for two hours early this morning,” said M.Srinivas, a consumer from Chikkadpally.

There were also complaints of early morning power cuts from Padmarao Nagar, Ashok Nagar and other areas.

However, the Chief General Manager, CPDCL Metro Zone, A.G.Satish Kumar, said the power cuts had been relaxed for the past few days due to rains in many parts of the State.

Owing to medium to heavy showers, power consumption by agricultural as well as domestic sectors had plummeted in various parts, leaving the discom with more availability of power.

However, the shortage was back on Saturday, and so were the power cuts, he said.
