VISAKHAPATNAM: Power cut for two days in a week being imposed on industries would lead to layoffs and increase the problems of workers, CITU State general secretary R. Sudhabhaskar said here on Tuesday.

The power cut was due to the State government’s total dependency on the Reliance Industries Limited to supply natural gas to the gas-based power plants in the State from the KG basin instead of being self-reliant. The Reliance Industries was postponing the supply even as the State was reeling under power cuts, he said at a press conference.

He alleged that the Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy government had deceived the working class in the State after making many promises in the 2004 election manifesto and after forming the government and said that it was time for the workers and employees to defeat Dr. Reddy in the ensuing elections.

Workers had pulled down the Telugu Desam government due to its anti-worker policies and would bring down the Congress Government now. They would not hesitate to pull up the grand alliance if it ignored their interests, the CITU leader said.

Dr. Rajasekhara Reddy promised to make every woman a ‘lakshaadhikaarini’ but the anganwadi workers, Aasha workers and others were granted low salaries that too after the workers launched agitations, the CITU leader said.

District secretary of CITU S. Ramesh also spoke.
