Activists of the Progressive Organisation of Women (POW) took out an impressive rally in the town on Thursday protesting against the State government's liquor policy.
Leading the rally, POW district secretary B. Padma contended that unhindered flow of liquor through unauthorised belt shops was responsible for increasing crime rate against women and domestic violence. “The government should initiate steps to curb the liquor menace which is ruining the lives of common people,” its district president S. Bharati said.
The activists burnt the effigy of ‘liquor ghost' and gave a call to women to get ready for protracted struggle to change the ‘anti-people' excise policy of the Kiran Kumar Reddy Government.
Andhra Pradesh NGOs Association district treasurer N. Rajalakshmi demanded that the State government curb the liquor menace.
