Decision to be implemented in six districts

VIJAYAWADA: Post Master-General, Vijayawada region, B.V. Sudhakar said on Saturday that the department would deliver mails at the doorstep of customers on Sunday, despite the New Year's Day falling on a holiday.

To print cards

Speaking to The Hindu , Mr. Sudhakar said the decision would be implemented in six districts - Khammam, Krishna, Guntur, Nellore, Prakasam and West Godavari, which came under the jurisdiction of Vijayawada region.

"Everyone would be eager to receive greetings cards from their near and dear ones. We do not want to disappoint them," he added.

Elaborating on future plans, Mr. Sudhakar said in 2006, the department was planning to print its own greeting cards, with emphasis on the culture and ethos of the region. "Each district has its share of historic and cultural importance. We wish to print cards glorifying the places and events for the benefit of customers. The stress will be on the local themes," he added.

He said the cards would be sold in the various offices of the department.

"We are already on the job to collect the data on historic importance of six districts, which come under the purview of Vijayawada region."
