Machilipatnam: The 11th death anniversary of former Chief Minister, late N.T. Rama Rao was observed here on Thursday by garlanding his statue at bus stand centre.

TDP leaders, who included former Minister N. Narasimha Rao, former municipal chairperson B.Arjunudu, former municipal vice-chairman M.V.V. Kumar Babu, participated in a meeting held on the occasion and paid floral tributes to the late NTR.

Poor feeding was organised at Bus Stand Centre and Koneru Centre by fans of NTR and his actor-son Balakrishna.

    Revival demanded

Addressing a public meeting at Koneru Centre later, Mr. Narasimha Rao criticised the State Government for "failing" to revive the Machilipatnam Port, which remained dormant for many years.

He demanded that the Government revive the port at Gilakaladindi area itself, where the old port existed, instead of shifting it to some other place in the district.

TDP leaders also condemned Vijayawada MP Lagadapati Rajagopal's statement that increasing the discharge capacity of Pothireddipadu head regulator would not harm the interests of people of Krishna Delta.

They burnt an effigy of Mr. Rajagopal and set a road blockade as a protest. The TDP leaders demanded that the Government withdraw the work relating to the head regulator.
