Karimnagar MP Ponnam Prabhakar Goud, along with representatives of various SC\ST and OBC association leaders, on Friday filed a case against sociologist Ashis Nandy with the Karimnagar Two town police for his reported remarks that the OBCs, SC and STs were more corrupt.

The MP, accompanied by Vemulawada temple board chairman Bomma Venkateshwar, former Zila Parishad chairman A. Laxman Kumar and others, filed the case under the SC\ST atrocities Act with the police.

Talking to newsmen, the MP said Nandy’s statement insulted and hurt the sentiments of the depressed classes.

Shankar Rao’s arrest condemned

Condemning the arrest of former Minister P. Shankar Rao, the Karimnagar MP said they would approach the National SC\ST Commission and lodge a complaint against the police for the alleged ill-treatment meted out to Shankar Rao.

“He is not a criminal. What forced the police to treat a legislator in such a manner,” he asked. Dalits in the State were scared following the ill-treatment of a senior Dalit legislator by the police, he added.
