The Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board (APPCB) on Saturday directed healthcare establishments that violated Bio-Medical Waste Management Rules to submit bank guarantee assuring their compliance.
The PCB directives were issued to 97 hospitals with more than 100 beds capacity and operating in violation of the rules in the districts of Hyderabad, Warangal, Ranga Reddy and Karimnagar.
At a meeting which was attended by healthcare establishment representatives here, hospitals operating without valid authorisation were directed to apply for authorisation within a week time.
Those operating without consent for operation as required under Water Act were asked to apply for the same within 15 days and were also directed to construct full fledged sewage treatment plants within six months and ensure that there was proper segregation of bio medical waste along with timely disposal of waste.
In order to assure compliance to the provisions of Environmental Protection Act, the hospitals were directed to submit bank guarantee within a week's time.
Dana Kishore, Member Secretary, APPCB conducted a legal hearing along with the Task Force Committee for reviewing the environmental performance of the hospitals today.
