VIJAYAWADA: The ongoing works of the Central Government-funded sports scheme -- Panchayat Yuva Kreeda Aur Khel Abhiyan – in the State have come to a halt with the implementation of the election code.
As many as 17 villages in Krishna District received Rs. 50,000 each towards first instalment. “Other villages could not get the grant as the election code came into effect. The grant would be sanctioned to the rest of the villages and mandals after April 23 when elections will be over,” said District Sports development Officer B. Sudhakar on Sunday. In Krishna district, 101 village-level schools and five mandal-level schools will get a grant of Rs. 1 lakh each and Rs. 5 lakh each, respectively, under the scheme, to provide basic sports infrastructure to the youth.
Put on hold
He said all administrative and field works concerning the scheme will be put on hold until the elections were over.
“Summer coaching camps conducted both by the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation and District Sports Authority will commence from May 1. We are preparing all the sports arenas both indoor and outdoor stadiums in the city for the month-long camp,” he disclosed.
