Select and impart training to agents
Rajahmundry: As the countdown begins for counting in the district on May 16, political parties have almost completed the process of selecting their agents, imparting them training and giving their names to District Election Officer.
Except those of the Congress, contestants of the two main opposition parties – the Telugu Desam Party and the Praja Rajyam Party -- have already made a trip to Hyderabad to attend review meetings of their respective party presidents.
According to M.S. Chakravarti, district convener of the PRP, the parties have been asked to submit a list of 15 agents for each Parliamentary constituency and 5 each for Assembly segment. So, each party will give around 150 names to the election official. The political parties have imparted training on their own to the agents.
The Congress, under the leadership of MLC K. Durgesh, conducted a training programme for leaders who would participate in the counting process.
However, Mr. Durgesh said:
“As everything is made electronic, the necessity of agents is quite minimal. There is quite a difference between counting ballot papers and counting using EVMs. But keen observation in EVMs is most important.”
Telugu Desam Party’s senior leader and former minister Gorantla Butchaiah Chowdary said that party president Chandrababu Naidu conducted a review meeting with all candidates in the district recently and discussed about the winning prospects.
They also completed the exercise of selecting agents and other formalities, he added.
BJP leader Kantipudi Sarvarayudu said that as per the instructions of the Collector they submitted the list.
