It is more than a week since the government transferred the DCsP of South and Central zones in Hyderabad. The newly posted officers, Manish Kumar and Tarun Joshi already took over charge as DCsP of South and Central zones respectively as well.

Strangely, the Hyderabad police website has not recognised this, and continues to display Akun Sabharwal and Vineet Brijlal as the DCsP of Central and South zones.

Launched a couple of years ago and acclaimed as one of the best among police websites in the country, this website of late is not updated and ends up giving misleading information to browsers.

The then CCS DCP, R. S. Praveen Kumar, who was behind preparing the content and format of the website, hoped to eventually transform it into a good information tool for citizens.

“From how to get birth certificate to securing back the stolen property, we want to collate information from all government departments and make it available on our website,” he used to say.

Instead of working to give more information, ironically, the website is giving obsolete information about its top brass. “So callous are the persons in-charge of the website that the Central Crime Station link page shows Santosh Mehra as Additional CP, Crimes, and another page of City Security Wing shows him as Additional CP, co-ordination,” says Raja Babu of Narayanaguda. Mr. Mehra was shifted to Crimes wing more than 10 days ago.

Banjara Hills Detective Inspector Waheeduddin was posted as Golconda Inspector but the website displays Venkat Naik as Inspector in-charge of that police station. Similarly, Langerhouz and Mangalhat Inspectors were transferred but the information was not updated.

The Traffic Police website too is not free from outdated information. Traffic DCP-2 Ravi Krishna assumed charge nearly 10 days ago but the website shows B. Malla Reddy who was posted to City Security Wing. Equally interesting is the Cyberabad police website. The page pertaining to ‘know your police station' link is not working for nearly a month. When the browser clicks on the link, ‘under construction and shall be made available soon' message appears. This page containing information on the areas, sectors and the police officers concerned of each police station is important. Nobody knows how soon the page will get updated.
